He pioneered the use of acrylic cloth for boat and sail covers, created the demand for synthetic sails, and when it became time to leave the sailcloth business, he promoted Nylon for flags, tents, and backpacks.

His idea was to provide fabric at wholesale prices to smaller users. He became a converter and wholesale distributor of Nylon fabrics for industrial and recreational uses. His willingness to gamble on unconventional ideas helped create the Hot Air Balloon industry, build the automobile racing safety business by providing Nomex® for drivers suits and parachute fabric for drag racers, ballistic nylon and Kevlar® for transmission blankets and supercharger blankets.
